Anyone out there?

No new postings in a while.. hmmm. I got nothing new, I just wanted to move my perm news/picture down.

Oh, I did take a cooking class last Friday! But I totally forgot to bring my camera. On the menu: soft-shell crabs, steak, noodles+veggies and macadamia tart. I was totally in it for the steak, but it was too salty, and my favorite dish was the Soba Noodles with Vegetables in Coconut Sauce. The sweetness of the noodles offset the saltyness of the steak and crabs. Unfortunately, I tried to make the recipe at home and it wasn't as good..

Not that big of news!

For those who read my blog, the "big news" and wedding thoughts were unrelated.. Besides, isn't it tradition in this family to wait for family reunions and make announcements like those months later? :)

The 'big' thing was me getting a perm! I had been thinking about it for a while, waited 'till after J+J's wedding in case of any disasters, but I chickened out (and got talked out of it by the hair stylist) back in Feb. I had to wait for my hair to grow a little bit, but I finally did it!
Ugh, they haven't improved the smell of it!

May birthdays!!

Now I can say, as of tomorrow, that I have two "thirty something" sons. One with boyish good looks and the other with rugged handsome looks. Guess which is the older one?

Happy Birthday, Georgie!

MAMI! georgie no ha limpiado su cuarto!

Jorge and i had lunch today and then we watched a movie called L'auberge espagnol about 7 or 8 europeans living together in Barcelona in one small apartment. But not even their apartment was as messy as Georgie's office.

Colin

We were up in the Bay Area this weekend, and had a picnic with Jimmy, Yang-Sze and Colin. So cute! (picture taken with my new Motoral L6 cell phone--1cm thin! I've already gotten two compliments for it from gadget freaks)

Citizen Cham

I'm flying back to Los Angeles for a few days in order to finalize my citizenship. I will be an american. Yuck. I mean Yey! So, Friday May 19th 9am in the LA County Fairground in Pomona, me and 7000 other people will become citizens of the US.

I beat you all!

Appliances

Moving this weekend! Shopping for new appliances now, need a washer, dryer, a range/oven, range hood and a refrigerator. So much stuff!

In doing that, I subscribed to consumerreports.org for this month, if anybody wants to use it for now (username: jaimecham password:joycejaime).

Jaime, i think you should buy this.

LOST

Getting hooked on Lost. There was a Lost marathon last sunday, the first six episodes of the second season, though because of daylight savings time, I missed the first one. Now I can make more sense of the what is going on and the characters. Did you notice that the numbers in the code to stop the countdown, add up to the total number of minutes of 108?

Birthday

I got to celebrate my birthday in Boston with Tim :) We invited some friends over for desserts. Tim and Bens conspired to surprise me with 24 cupcakes to be delivered Monday morning. Mmmm. We also ordered a mud-pie ice cream cake. Lots of sugar and fun. We have yet to celebrate with a steak dinner, probably Friday :)

Busted!

According to Joyce I have now been caught carousing in Thailand with a hot young starlet and Shu Qi (the girl in The Transporter). And to add to the embarassement, in my Speedo.

Then she realized this guy looks more buff, so I'm off the hook (mixed news here).

Coincidentally, somebody else told me this weekend I look like this dude (adding to a long roster including Carmen).

Jaime: There IS hope

Suelika has figured it out: you and I have a 75% chance of going bald, which means we have a 25% chance of NOT going bald. Here's the breakdown:

(Some basic genetics first) Men get one Y chromosome from their dad, and one X chromosome from their mom. Women get one X chromosome from each of their parents. The bald gene is carried in the X chromosome. So, if your mom passed an X chromosome with the bald gene to you, you're doomed.

Now, Apo must have one bald X chromosome (Xb) and one non-bald X chromosome (X) because not ALL her sons are going bald (Tio Quiquito, so far, is not going bald). Apo must be X-Xb. Our granpa (mom's dad) was bald, so his X chromosome had the bald gene. He was Xb-Y.

This means mom has at least one bald X chromosome (from her dad), and a 50-50 chance of having the second X chromosome be the bald Xb. She's either Xb-X or Xb-Xb.

So, the X chromosome that mom passed to you and me has a 75% chance of being an Xb chromosome, and a 25% chance of being X.

The good news:
1) We already got women to be legally bound to us, so it doesn't matter if we go bald.
2) Tio Tony and Tio Paco didn't go bald until their's late 40's, so if we didn't get lucky, at least we have another 20-odd years left of hair.
3) If mom IS Xb-Xb (a 50% chance), then we're BOTH going bald, and can commiserate.

V, for thanks for ruining the movie.

That's ok. im just kidding. you did warn me. I like reading spoilers. i dont know why. Thanks for setting up the blog bro.

Let's see, what can i write about....

ah yes DC. cool town. thank you lauri for a nice trip and vacation from NY. i find it hard to believe it is supposed to have some of the worst traffic in the US. I hardly saw any people on the streets. It was the weekend tho. I think New York is already changing the way i think about cities. I'll leave here thinking all restaurants are small, people have less personal space and i will never want to drive to work again. Are we chams destined to always live in big cities? would we be bored in suburban towns?

DC is kinda strange in that the city is made up of monuments. even the apartment buildings look monumental.
